We often hear: “Gen Z doesn’t want to work or endure hardship the way we once did.” And maybe there’s some truth in that. They really do see work differently. But instead of criticizing them, perhaps we should ask ourselves: What can we learn from them?
What does Gen Z teach us?
Gen Z makes it clear that work is not their whole life. They want balance, meaning and flexibility. While many of us grew up believing that we had to “grit our teeth and endure,” they ask: “Why?”
Tips & Tricks we can learn from them:
- Balance – Your worth isn’t measured by 12-hour workdays.
- Authenticity – They want to be true to themselves, both at work and outside of it.
- Purpose – Their constant “Why are we doing this?” can help all of us find new clarity.
What to expect from Generation Alpha?
They are just arriving, the children born with a tablet or phone in their hands. Their world moves faster than we ever imagined. From them, we can expect innovation, speed and the courage to experiment.
But they will expect something different from us: to teach them patience, empathy and human connection – things Google and AI will never be able to explain.
Tips & Tricks for welcoming them:
- Be a mentor, not just a boss. They won’t seek authority, but knowledge and support.
- Challenge them. They thrive on dynamic projects where they can see real results.
- Listen to them. Their ideas may sound naïve, but often hide innovation we don’t yet see. In many ways, they’ll understand things better than we do.
Our generations carry experience: we know what it’s like to fight and push through crises. The young bring energy and enthusiasm. When combined, that creates a force powerful enough to push boundaries. The future doesn’t belong to one side or the other – it’s built in the meeting of wisdom and freshness.
