The recent conference, where I moderated the panel “Who am I really?” raised many important questions, such as Does the new age have new values?

The five values that closed the panel were: freedom, family, love, integrity and sharing. This is another confirmation that the new age doesn’t have new values.

What do we need more?

My panelists agreed that trust is nowadays needed more than ever in every area of our lives. It supports all the above values.

This inspired me to write about the importance of trust.

Trust has to be built and needs time. “Trust takes years to build, seconds to break and forever to repair.” Most of us know this, and it’s not something new, but it’s good to be reminded.

We can’t immediately trust someone, and that’s completely understandable. We need time to develop trust in all kinds of relationships. During this time, we have to foster trust because once it is broken, it is possible to take it back, but it will never be the same. There will always be a dose of cautiousness and double-checking.

How to build trust?

  • Have an honest relationship and open communication, especially in the uncertain times we are currently living in
  • Keep promises – words and actions must go together
  • Lead by example – show trust if you want to get the same in return
  • Be transparent – show weaknesses, say if you don’t know something, ask for help

What are the benefits?

Where to start? ?

A space filled with trust is necessary when it comes to working environments. By fulfilling this condition, teams function better, confidence is greater, there are no doubts or hiding things under the carpet, and people are free to express their opinions and take risks more easily.

As a coach, I always say that a space filled with trust is a prerequisite for every coaching session. Recently I had a great group of people as part of Coaching Competencies for Managers. On the first of six modules, we created a space filled with trust, so participants could freely share their challenges. In that non-judgmental environment, they came up with answers that helped them run their teams.
