A few thoughts from our first lady Jelena Vuletić, ACC..

Coaching has given me the opportunity to work with companies that recognize the need for constant improvement of their employees’ skills. I’ve had the pleasure to be with some of them from the very beginning.

The companies that promote investing in knowledge and business competence development are the ones that rapidly go from starters to important and extraordinary players.

On the other hand, there are executives who think: What’s the purpose of investing a lot in my workers when they might leave me the second they get better opportunity? I’ll respond with a question: What if they stay? Your business will boom, and your
market position will be much, much better. But what if some of them really leave? In that case, the reputation of your company will be even stronger. It will be known as the great company which produces talents and competent workers. The leaders of the companies should
spread this culture and improving skills should sometimes be put as obligatory. That way, we won’t see the reluctance of some employees when it comes to additional knowledge, there won’t be excuses such as: I know all of that, I don’t need it or I don’t have enough time.

Therefore:

  • Put constant improvement of employees’ skills as high priority.
  • If you haven’t done this so far – start planning as soon as possible. It’s never too late. The benefits will be seen soon.
  • If some people don’t want – leaders should sometimes put it as mandatory. After all, it’s for employees’ own benefit.
