You know what you need to do. That email. That conversation. That decision you’ve been postponing for weeks.
And yet… you don’t start.
Instead, you think about it, you analyze and plan. And then you delay it again.
We often call this procrastination. But in my work as a somatic and leadership coach, I see something very different. Procrastination is not the problem. It’s a signal.
What’s really behind putting things off?
When people delay action, it’s rarely about discipline. It’s about what is happening under the surface. From experience, there are a few common patterns:
- The task is not aligned with your values
- There is no clear structure
- You want to do it perfectly
- The task feels uncomfortable
You don’t need more motivation but clarity, safety and alignment because your body already knows when something is off. If you keep postponing something, it’s worth asking: what is this really about?
This is not a time management issue but a pattern and patterns don’t change with to-do lists.
They change with awareness and structured work.
You don’t solve procrastination by pushing harder but by understanding your triggers and changing your internal response.
Here is where to start:
- Notice when you begin to avoid something
- Identify what you are feeling in that moment (tension, fear, confusion)
- Get clear on what truly matters
- Break the task into the smallest possible step
- Allow imperfection
Putting things off is not just about productivity. It affects leadership, decision-making, relationships and confidence.
This is exactly why I created LevelUp Mindset
I didn’t create this program to “fix procrastination” but to help people understand and change the patterns behind it. It is an 8-week structured online program designed for people who want to break patterns such as overthinking, fear of mistakes and judgment, procrastination, people-pleasing and difficulty setting boundaries
If you are someone who:
- carries responsibility
- works under pressure
- wants more, but not at the cost of your well-being
- keeps delaying things you know matter
Then this is not about trying harder. It’s about working differently.
The next LevelUp Mindset program starts on 24 March 2026.
If you feel ready to explore a different way of working, I’m here.
