Today, I’d like to share a recent experience that highlights the role of written communication in our professional lives.
A few weeks ago, I invited a distinguished guest to join Student Business Hub for one day as a guest speaker. Our initial communication via email was smooth; we agreed on the topic (his inspiring career journey) and outlined the questions we would discuss.
However, two days before the event, he reached out, expressing concern that he might be unable to attend due to high temperature and maybe to try to find a replacement. I tried to explore alternative options, yet the short notice posed challenges in finding a suitable replacement.
Surprisingly, the day before the event, he followed up, inquiring if I was able to find someone. He also expressed his willingness to participate if needed since he felt much, much better. He came, it was beautiful and very successful. It was a happy end.
This level of clear, timely, and considerate written communication was truly admirable.
This case emphasizes the significance of effective written communication in a world dominated by emails, instant messaging, and virtual interactions. I think we can all agree – it is an essential skill in our modern professional environments.
So, just as a reminder, here are some of the benefits of good written communication. It:
- Allows for clear expression of ideas and information;
- Reduces the risk of misunderstandings or misinterpretations;
- Saves time for both parties;
- Minimizes the need for follow-up questions or clarifications;
- Builds trust and credibility;
- Demonstrates respect for the recipient’s time and attention.
And last, but definitely not the least:
- Contributes to effective leadership and management
I wish you all effective and impactful written communication and a great week ahead.
