Mentorship is more than guidance. It involves sharing wisdom, expertise, experience, and encouraging the growth of others.

So, apart from coaching I also enjoy mentoring people who want to take a step further in their career. The experience is really rewarding.

This Tuesday I wanted to share the roles that mentors have and what steps to take if you are going to look for one.

 Mentor’s role

  • Mentors nurture the talent of mentees by providing constructive feedback, challenging them and empowering their professional development.
  • Mentors help people avoid common pitfalls and provide valuable insights that can only come from years of experience.
  • Mentors encourage the mentee’s independence and decision-making abilities.
  • Mentors respect confidentiality and maintain privacy regarding the discussions and information shared during the mentoring relationship.

Being a mentor means leaving a long-lasting impact on the lives and careers of other people, contributing to their success and helping shape the future of the industry.

How to find the right mentor

I know that it can be very challenges, so here are the things you should consider when looking for a mentor:

  • Clarify goals – Before seeking a mentor, identify areas where you need guidance and support.
  • Seek expertise – Look for mentors who have extensive knowledge and experience in your field of interest.
  • Compatibility – A strong mentor-mentee relationship is built on trust, respect, and rapport. Look for a mentor with whom you can communicate openly, and who understands your strengths, challenges, and aspirations.
  • Be open to feedback – Embrace challenges and be willing to adapt and improve.
